Why is the BBC aggressively scheduling "strictly" against the "x-factor"......?

........surely given its place as a public service provider it should be not being making two similar target audiences choose, I know most people have Sky Plus or at least a video, but if its going to start acting like a commercial broadcaster expecting people to choose then shouldn't we get a choice to pay the license fee or not?
