Anyone know how much of a fine for driving with an EXPIRED license?

I thought your driver's license expires at the end of your birth month but I just found out today it expires on your actual birthday. I now have to take my birth certificate to the DMV to prove legal residence in order to renew it & I have no clue where it's at so I will have to wait for Maine to send me one (I now live in VA). Anyone know about how much the fine is if I get pulled over? I know it probably varies by state but just an approximation will be helpful. Thanks!
