Confederation- 10 points best answer.?
I ume you are speaking of Canada's Confederation. In the academics of History Confederation is when Canada became a united country. The Confederation is a widely disputed topic and had many factors. Basic information is July 1st, 1867 the Maritime Provinces of Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Quebec. The reasons for joining was mainly due to tariff free trade, the promise of a united railroad system and protection from a threat from the United States. The actual slogan for Confederation was "Unite the Irish are Coming!" At the time there were many Irish immigrants living in the U.S. with a great hatred for the English. A group of Irish farmers organized a small army with the intend of invading the British Colonies (what is now Maritime Canada) to hold them for ransom until the British released Ireland from there control. The campaign was unsuccessful and the army never crossed the St Lawrence River into Quebec. However a few Irish farmers, the exact number is disputed ranging from 2 -10 men, rowed across the St Lawrence and burnt a guard post down and scared the heck out of the British Soldier on duty. He ran into the city yelling of invasion, hence, "Unite the Irish are Coming!" This is one of the many reasons colonies became Confederated. To find information for yourself it is easily found at your local library.
