Does a pap smear hurt?

I HATE pap smears. I was terrified of them and put off getting one until I had to hove one in order to get the new gardisil vaccine. They are uncomfortable, cold and embarring. It doesnt hurt, even if you havent had much . I dont think you'd need a sedative though, it takes about 5 minutes and then its over
