What's the difference between the grammy's and the American Music Awards?

The Grammys are awards that are given out by the R.I.A.A. and are the oldest music award given in the United States. The A.M.A.s were invented by Clark as a response to the monopoly held by the R.I.A.A. and have crept up in popularity to the Grammys in recent years, though the Grammys are still considered by musicians to be the high watermark in their industry...the Grammy voters have historically voted slightly out of step...but the Grammys always demand live performances on their telecast. The AMAs telecasts seem more current but sometimes lipsynched.
